Colorado Association of Public Employees (CAPE) and Insurance Advisors (Westminster, CO) are proud to offer insurance benefits to all CAPE members beginning January 1, 2005. This website is intended for the exclusive use of CAPE members and their dependants. /HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS (HSAs).

Coupled with a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) this plan is becoming the "Plan of the Future" across the nation. Although there are no copays for office visits and prescriptions, monthly premiums are substantially reduced by the overall plan design, which allows the insured to open a Tax-favored savings account. Once a qualified HDHP (Deductible of $1100-$10,000), is established, the insured sets up a Health Savings Account. Families (2 or more persons) have ONE deductible to meet, then all medical expenses are paid by the insurance company for the entire family for the remainder of the year (based on 100% coinsurance). Individual deductibles are lower (by 50%) than family deductibles.

The Health Savings Account works very much like a "medical IRA" in that money deposited into your personal health savings account can be used "Tax Free" for medical expenses and grows tax deferred into retirement. This, in effect, creates a retirement account that can be accessed with NO penalty and pre-tax for medical expenses!
